A2Date stands for "Asians to Date" or "Asian Americans (A2) Date". Obviously, the A stands for Asians, and the Date is clearly the word Date. But, the number 2 can be read two different ways. First, the number 2 is a substitute for the word "to", as in "Asians to Date". Second, the number 2 can be read as an exponent - meaning A², or A-squared, or AA - as in "Asian American Dating". How did this simplified name come about? The founders both attended Stanford University, where it's popular on campus to substitute shorthand versions for long-winded titles. Hence, "A2Date" instead of "Asians to Date" or "Asian American Dating".
